What makes a good walk leader?

  • Approachable, with a warm personality.
  • Sociable – a good communicator who knows that the main reasons people participate are for company and to walk in safety
  • Patient – understanding that people have very different fitness levels, and not minding sometimes being the ‘back leader’ and walking at the pace of the slowest.
  • Flexible – able to adapt to circumstances on the day and adjust pace (or even sometimes the route) accordingly.
  • Reliable – especially about routes and times
  • Inspiring – able to promote walkers’ confidence and encourage them to walk more
  • Convinced of the benefits of walking for health.

If you are a keen walker and would like to help others achieve the social, psychological and physical benefits of regular walking, we would love to hear from you!
